"Welcome to the Vault.... An archive of the incredible; a repository of the impossible, a storehouse of secrets great and small....This is the untold history of America; this is a collection of weapons from myth and lore, and this is classified supernatural information that's only revealed to sitting U.S. presidents."
Jake Wells to Molly Thomas[src]

The Vault, officially known as Agency 355, is a location in Washington DC previously run by Homeland Security. It is as an archive for all things supernatural and unexplainable.

However, the truth of its origin was mostly lost over time; instead, the employees only ever tracked down rumors and documented them, taking no action. The ancient texts on creatures and the supernatural did remain.

Following Malcolm Dreyfuss's defeat, the president became aware of the supernatural, and upgraded Agency 355's status to reporting directly to her. As a result, the funding and resources for the Agency were increased, and it became an independent agency under the direction of Ichabod Crane.

Trivia[]

  • The letter Crane received from Ezra Mills essentially appointed him director of Agency 355.
  • Crane is de facto leader of the Agency, with everyone following his lead; it's unknown what position the president officially gave Crane along with his citizenship.
  • The Vault itself is the Archives set remodeled to include a second floor.
  • The Agency is named for a member of Washington's spy ring, the Culper Ring. It was the code name of a female spy , one of the first spies for the United States, but her real identity is the only one of the Culper Ring never to be uncovered. The number 355 could be decrypted from the system the Culper Ring used to mean "lady."
