Series Premiere Reactions

With a name like "Sleepy Hollow" and all the previous versions of the story we're all familiar with (none the least of which being the Tim Burton / Johnny Depp film with the exact same title...), it would be difficult for anyone to find a new angle from which to spin this tale. That being said, I think the writers of this show may have done just enough to keep it fresh and interesting. The one thing I didn't really like was having the characters flat-out tell us to our "faces" that the town is mysterious by saying there have been unsolved crimes in the area. That was kind of a "duh!" moment for me. We, the viewers, already know from the title of the show that this is not your ordinary town. Aside from that, I thought the writing in general was good, and the character building is progressing well so far. The fact that the "horseman" in this series is actually one of the biblical four horsemen of the apocalypse was an interesting move, in my opinion, and could lead to a deeper story core than some other versions we've seen in the past.

Something interesting I noticed - and I know I can't be the only one who did - was that in line with the established biblical theme, Ichabod reads directly from the Book of Revelations toward the end of the episode. He tells Abbie that two witnesses that must face seven years of tribulation, and he thinks the two of them are those witnesses. Is Fox hinting at seven seasons of Sleepy Hollow? Hmmmmm.... Let's get renewed for a season two, and *then* start worrying about another five. :P Anyway, who really cares what I think, the important thing here is - what did YOU think?
