"It sits upon a focal point of ancient energy. Energy he will use to amplify the forces held within the Hourglass to an even greater effect. His vantage point on the mountain will make his final victory all the sweeter. When the sands run out, the power within will flow with the greatest purity."
Pandora[src]

The Golden Hourglass is a magical item that contains the Sands of Life. It has the power to grant the user of the hourglass omnipotence.

History[]

Creation[]

The brother of the Hidden One created the Golden Hourglass. The Hidden One claimed to Pandora that his brother was siphoning evil into the hourglass to remain omnipotent. She used her Box to imprison him, leaving the Golden Hourglass behind. At some point in time, the Golden Hourglass was hidden after the Hidden One was imprisoned in the Catacombs.

The Hidden One magically conjured the Golden Hourglass from the pool in his lair. He summoned the Sands of Life, produced by Japeth Leeds, and siphoned them into the empty hourglass. Turning it over, the Hidden One says that the time has come and the new world has arrived.[1] The hourglass then remains in the lair while the sands continue to flow to the bottom of the glass. It was replenished repeatedly by Pandora with sacrifices to maintain its power, but the sacrifices stopped when she betrayed the Hidden One. [2][3]

Once the time had almost arrived, the Hidden One takes the Hourglass to the top of Bear Mountain at the intersection of ley lines to strengthen its power to make up for the lack of sacrifices. The Witnesses attempted to stop the Hidden One by trying to break the hourglass and preventing it from gathering the power from the ley lines. As the last grains fell, the Hidden One looked at the hourglass in triumph, but the final grain hung suspended by Pandora. The grain stopped as the mountain was surrounded by a mystical barrier that was generated by the Witnesses by placing iron spikes around the mountain which absorbed the energy from the ley lines. Once the Hidden One breaks the barrier by melting the spikes, the last grain falls and he absorbs the energy from the hourglass into his body, shattering it and gaining omnipotence.[4]
