The Gorgon was a naga-like creature that turns to stone any who meet its gaze. It was the guard of the underground pit where the Sword of Methuselah was hidden.

Protecting the Sword[]
It was implied that the Gorgon had been in the pit for centuries, and that its victims had been multiple others, including M. Dixon, Abbie's ancestor. When it first encounter's Abbie and Ichabod, they fled from it. Later, they returned to battle the Gorgon, but with Abraham van Brunt as a ruse since he was headless. While battling Abraham, the Gorgon was finally beheaded by the horseman.[1]
The Gorgon's head was then taken by the Witnesses and kept in the Jar that the Headless Horseman's Skull was kept in and kept in the Masonic Cell. The head still maintained its ability to turn people to stole with a single glance. Jenny was prepared to use it on Frank Irving however, she didn't have to as his soul was soon returned to him after Henry Parrish's death.[2]

- In Greek mythology, the Gorgon sisters were three sisters, Stheno, Euryale, and Medusa. With snakes for hair, they had the ability to turn anyone who looked at them into stone, killing them. However, the myths state only Medusa could petrify victims with a look.
- After the Gorgon lost its head, ironically, the Horseman's head became visible to both Crane and Abbie.[1]
