"Bad Blood" is the thirteenth and final episode of Season One for Fox's Sleepy Hollow. It was written by Alex Kurtzman & Mark Goffman and directed by Ken Olin. It is the thirteenth episode of the series overall, and debuted on January 20, 2014. This episode is the first season finale.
Synopsis[]
Crane and Abbie discover a dark secret buried within the pages of George Washington's Bible and unearth the shocking true nature of the founding father's death. Meanwhile, Captain Irving makes a near-impossible decision for the sake of his beloved family that will drastically impact his future. Then, the battle between good and evil comes to an explosive head. Sacrifices must be made, loyalties are tested, and the town of Sleepy Hollow will never be the same.[1]

Henry Parish sees a vision of a horseman, War, rising, and awakens from a disturbed sleep.
Meanwhile, on the banks of the river, Crane sees a woman who might be Katrina walking away from him, he calls out but she does not answer. He follows, and is confused to find himself in a Revolutionary War encampment, and the woman is not Katrina after all. What he has found is a group of Revolutionary War re-enactors. To his delight, he finds a sutler who sells period clothing.
Crane then gets a phone call from Henry who says he needs to talk to him and the Mills sisters immediately. Henry’s news is that Moloch intends to bring about the Apocalypse that day. That day is also the 13th anniversary of when the Mills sisters first saw Moloch in the woods.
Abbie arrives at the precinct to find that Irving has been transferred upstate. The Witnesses discover that the only way to stop War from rising is to cast a particular spell on the land where the rising will occur. The only witch that can cast the spell appears to be Katrina. Crane finally confesses to having recreated the map, and Jenny and Abbie discuss the idea of walking into Purgatory. Abbie finally says that she wants to confront Moloch for destroying their lives. Jenny tells her sister she doesn’t want to lose her again.
Crane, Henry, and Abbie head towards the the convergence of ley lines needed to open the portal to Purgatory. Henry warns them not to eat or drink anything while there, lest they be trapped forever. Henry advises them to cling to the hope of the future, and use their bond. Crane and Abbie recite the incantation to open the gateway and enter Purgatory together.
They are instantly separated, each alone in a vision; Abbie sees a vision of Corbin and Andy. It is a trick to convince her that the events of the past months were a dream. The vision claims that she was at Quantico and sustained a head injury during a live fire exercise. She is happy to see Corbin, and tells him that she missed him so much, but that she thinks she is supposed to remember something.
Crane is shown a vision of Oxford, he is wearing a professor's robes. He is greeted by his fellow scholars, including his father. The vision claims that the British won the American Revolution, and that Crane was instrumental at winning the Battle of Yorktown for the British. Crane is certain that this is not the truth, but the others laugh at his jest.
In both visions they are offered sustenance. Abbie nearly eats Corbin's pie a la mode, but when she hesitates, blood starts to pour out of the pie. Abbie runs to the door and tries to leave. For Crane, his father toasts him, and he nearly drinks before realizing that it is a lie. Crane rejects his father’s demands that he drink and the father in the vision becomes monstrous.
Meanwhile, at the archive, Jenny listens to Corbin’s old recordings and does more research regarding the conversations between Knapp and Corbin. She finds out about an abandoned church outside of town.
In Purgatory, Crane frees himself from the vision and finds Abbie on the ground. He startles her, and they eye each other suspiciously, unsure if the other is real. She asks him what she taught him after they captured the Horseman. The two engage in a fist bump to confirm their reality for each other. They set off to find Katrina among the lost souls. They discover the church and inside they find Katrina, and offer to bring her home. Katrina, however, cannot leave without leaving a soul in exchange for hers or the walls between the worlds would breakdown. She can only if someone takes her place.
Crane offers to take Katrina’s place, and then Abbie says that she will be the one to take Katrina’s place; she wants to face Moloch. Katrina gives her an amulet to protect her from Moloch, then Crane and Katrina recite the chant and leave Purgatory. The gateway closes behind them. Katrina is stunned and joyfully tests the reality around her. Henry introduces himself and makes it clear that they have only a short time in order to bind the ground. Katrina’s power is weak, but for the very first time practices magic in front of her husband. He says in wonder, "I married a witch!" They followed her finding spell to the trees and begin the ritual.
In Purgatory, among the lost souls. Abbie and Moloch confront each other. She shoves the amulet into Moloch’s flesh which burns him. She drops it as she flees from the demon. Abbie finds the place where she and her sister used to hide to stay safe from their mother; it is where Moloch cannot get to her. Inside she finds two girls - childhood echos of her and Jenny.
Back in Sleepy Hollow, Jenny finds the church indicated in the files, it is the same church that is echoed in Purgatory where Katrina was found. It is the church where she last saw her son. Jenny finds the name of the church, and makes the connection. She drives away calling Abbie to warn her, only to run into the Headless Horseman who causes her truck to flip, leaving her unconscious.
At the trees, Katrina finds the binding spells will not work. At last, Henry reveals his true allegiance, and binds Katrina and Crane to the trees. He has been deceiving them all along. He tells them that War has already been loosed; Henry is War. He also reveals he is Jeremy Crane, the son of Ichabod and Katrina. He had changed his name from Jeremy Crane when he found the sign for St. Henry's Parish upon his rescue from his own purgatory. Henry hands Katrina over to the Headless Horseman, then buries Crane in his own former grave. Henry breaks the second seal, and begins his transformation into the Horseman of War

- The scene in which Ichabod Crane is being flung into the coffin in which Jeremy Crane had been trapped in for 200 years, is a mixture of live action shots and CGI footage.[2]
- This episode marks one of only two or three of times Abbie Mills calls her partner by his first name.
